About Katie Whitman
Katie
R. Whitman was born on March 21, 1981 in Conneaut, Ohio. She grew up
in this small town on the shores of Lake Erie, playing soccer,
dancing in Wildfire, volunteering at Right Track, an after school
program, and eventually pursuing a degree in Education with hopes of
teaching young children some day. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to
achieve this dream - On December 8, 2002, Katie was involved in car
accident and died a few weeks later as a result of her injuries.
Katie was a beautiful, full of life, caring, adventurous young
person and so much more. She loved children, animals, climbing her
favorite tree as a child and love spending time outdoors. In a short
time, she did so much, feared so little, and gave so often to
others. Our lives are so much richer from knowing and loving her. If
you didn’t know her, we hope that after today, you do.
Help us celebrate the life of Katie Whitman by donating blood at a
local American Red Cross drive held in your area or attend the
Katie Whitman Memorial Blood Drive
held annually in Conneaut, Ohio. Katie was an avid blood donor
during her life and was such a kind and giving person to everyone
she met. If you met her, you certainly did not forget her. She was
one of a kind. She had unlimited energy and a heart as big as the
ocean. She never asked why... Just when and she was there.
Help us celebrate her life and continue her generosity and kindness
towards others by donating blood or performing a
“Katie Moment” as often as we can. Let
Katie live on in each of us!
As a small child, Katie copied a poem onto a piece of paper and gave
it to her grandma. The following is the poem and it describes Katie
best:

Take Time
Take time to think, it’s the source of power
Take time to
play, it’s the secret to perpetual youth
Take time to read,
it’s the fountain of wisdom
Take time to pray, it’s the
greatest power on earth
Take time to love and be loved, it’s a
God given privilege
Take time to be friendly, it’s the road to
happiness
Take time to laugh, it’s music to your soul
Take
time to give, it’s to short a day to be selfish
Take time to
work, it’s the price of success
Take time to do charity, it’s
the key to Heaven
